Aion 2 Release Date: October 5, 2026
Aion 2 launches globally on October 5, 2026. PC only, free-to-play, through Steam (app 3393110) and NCSoft's own PURPLE launcher. Anyone holding a Founder's Pack gets in on September 30 — a five-day head start. Before either date, NCSoft ran a Launch Scale Test on September 17–18: level 37 cap, a dozen hours of PvE-only content, and a full wipe afterward. It drew 73,000+ players.
That's the answer. What actually decides whether you play on the 30th, on the 5th, or never, is everything bolted onto it.
The store page is the first wall, and it fails silently
In a decent number of store regions the title simply does not exist. Not "buyable but restricted" — it does not come back in search, so the usual "just look it up and wishlist it" advice dies at step zero. You get This item is currently unavailable in your region only if you arrive by direct link, and roughly eighteen countries are on that list.
The obvious move is to switch your Steam store country. Don't. The advice that circulates among people who already did this is the opposite: register a fresh account for the region, don't flip an existing one. Repeated region changes are how accounts end up flagged, and the flag doesn't care that you were only buying a game.
The official fallback is PURPLE, NCSoft's own launcher. It has its own trap. Log in with a global or Google account and you get quietly redirected to the Korean game page instead of the one you want. The installer that comes down after that writes a folder with a _KR suffix rather than _TW, and you find out two hours into a download. Fixing it means migrating the account to a new email on NCSoft's side, which requires a code sent to your phone — and people on +86 numbers reported the code never arriving at all. Budget an evening for this, not ten minutes.
Whatever you buy, buy the cheapest tier
The head start is five days on every tier. The tiers do not buy you more time. Buy the entry one and stop; the other tiers are cosmetics and currency you can decide on after you've seen whether you're still playing in November.
The game crashes at the logo, and nobody knows why
One case, documented in detail: RTX 5060, driver 610.88. No error dialog, no crash report. The logo appears and then simply disappears. Another player on 610.74 had the same thing for two months, described it as "whether I can get in depends on luck," and was planning to roll back to 591.86.
What did work for at least one person was copying the Taiwanese launcher files over the Korean client. What demonstrably did not work: changing the system timezone, changing the system locale, deleting the 64-bit files, applying DX11 and DX12 patches, reinstalling Windows six or seven times, hiring six or seven separate "I fix game crashes" people online, and carrying the machine to a physical repair shop.
There's a second, worse variant — a hard freeze at the same logo that takes the entire computer with it. Mouse dead, no response to any key, hard reboot required. Re-downloading the game didn't fix it. Re-downloading it onto a different physical drive didn't fix it either, which is the datapoint that tells you to stop suspecting the disk. If it happens to you, you are not alone and you are probably not going to solve it before launch.
The global build is not the Korean build
English coverage of this stops at "no Heroic gear, crafted gear loses its PvE bonus." The actual list is much longer, and it changes what you'd prioritise on day one:
- No red (heroic) gear at launch. Only silver medals exist — no gold, no platinum.
- Crafted gear can't be traded. Materials still can. It also loses its PvE damage bonus and can only be made into the base dragon tiers and upgraded from there.
- Guardian stat lines were cut across the board — combat speed went 2.5% → 1.5%, including the PvP variants.
- Pets went LV5 → 3, and the pet affinity tables changed so that some tiers no longer grant crit at all.
- Some titles lost their crit line entirely. The achievement statue is gone.
- Dungeons now drop finished wings instead of feather materials, and those wings are bound and untradeable; wings can't be dismantled for stones.
- 1:1 player trading was removed. A new reputation score now gates the auction house — you raise it by clearing dungeons and buying things, and listings priced far above market get you restricted.
- Engraving on accessories lost its passive skills; necklaces carry attack speed/power, earrings movement speed/power, rings power.
Players who went through the Korean and Taiwanese versions and then did the scale test describe the net effect as: slower pace, slower stat inflation, same class skills, and you grind it all again.
About the language
The April 2026 global announcement listed ten languages including Simplified and Traditional Chinese. The Steam store page currently lists eight, and Chinese is not among them. There is a Steam Community thread asking precisely when and why it was dropped, and it does not have an official answer. Do not pre-purchase on the strength of the April press release. Community-made localization patches are already being passed around.
Disk
100 GB. Both the minimum row and the recommended row say 100 GB, SSD recommended — so clearing space is not optional and "I'll leave it on the HDD" is a decision you'll pay for in load times.
One last thing about the head start, because it's the part people misread. September 30 is not a beta you can fall back on. Progress from the September 17–18 test was wiped, and there is no indication the Founder's-Pack window behaves differently. You are buying five days of a fresh server with everyone else who paid — which is either exactly what you want or exactly what you don't, and it's worth knowing which before the 30th rather than after.
